HOW TO OVERHAUL PROPELLER SHAFT

Propeller shaft is one of the components on the car, type FR (front engine rear drive) and FWD / AWD (four wheel drive), which serves to transfer power from the transmission to the differential. The length of the propeller shaft depending on the length of the vehicle. On long vehicles, propeller shaft divided into several parts to guarantee that can still work well.

the damage to the propeller shaft components can cause discomfort in the drive, therefore it is necessary to check or repair the propeller shaft. The propeller shaft overhaul procedures are as below:

• Tools needed :

- Tool box

- Plastic hammer

- Shocked wrench

- Pliers

- Dial indicators

- "V" Block

- Vet Pump

- - Jack and jack stand

A. How to how to disassemble Propeller shaft

· Make assemble marks on the propeller shaft.

· Open flange with a box wrench

· Check for leaks seal shaft output shft transmission seal and the axle drive seal.

· Use the oil plug or other means so that the transmission oil does not spill.

Inspection of propeller components

· Check the bearing clearances of the universal joint, maximum 0,02 mm

· check the axial clearances, maximum 0,02 mm

· Check the sleeve joint, when it can’t slide properly cleaned and give it a new grease.

· Using a dial indicator, check the drive shaft crookedness maximum 0,06 mm.

If the results do not match the specifications unloading universal joint as below:

Removing the locking rings:

· type locking ring on the outer end of the ring is clamped with pliers and pull it out.

· type locking ring inside, push with the beat of a hammer on the end of the locking ring up off.

· Using a plastic hammer, hit on the yoke untill the bearing cup out from holder, Be careful don't let the bearing cup holder damaged.

· If The bearing cup can not / tough it out by being hit, pressed bearing cup on the vise to the left and to the right until it feels easy to take, then hit again untill bering cup out. Be careful don’t let needle bearings fall / missing.

· Check the condition of cross joint, seal, cup bearing, needle bearings and yoke, if worn / damaged must be replaced (one set).

B. How to Assemble Propeller Shaft

Installing the cross joint :

· Install the cross joint by matching the mounting marks

· Filling grease on the cross joint until the full

· Install new seal

· Install the bearing cup. bearing housing position, the holder bearing cups and the cross joint shaft must be straight and then pressed, little by little and check whether the cross joint can spin well, When little hard, push with the beat at the end of the yoke.

· Check the position of bearing housings on the stand, must be straight.

· Install new snap rings with axial clearances 0.02 mm.
